The long Kirfis mountain is what you see across the cliffs and the river Pleistos flows through a valley planted with olive trees. Civilization flourished here from the 9th century BC. to 83 BC

Osios Loukas

It is one of the largest and best preserved monasteries of the 11th century in Greece. We must mention that it is also one of the most valuable examples of Byzantine art. It was founded in the 10th century by Saint Luke (known as "the righteous"). It is located in a wonderful place just 10 km from Distomo.

The architectural style of the two temples as well as their fine decoration and frescoes have attracted the admiration and interest of many devotees and later tourists. This is the reason why the monastery of Agios Loukas occupies a special place in the studies of Byzantine art.

In 1986, the Vatican returned to the Monastery of Saint Luke his relic, which had been moved for protection during the period of Turkish rule.
